The Act of Contrition, adapted version
O my God, I am truly sorry for having disappointed You,
and I detest all my sins,
not because I fear the loss of Heaven or the pains of hell,
but because I’m afraid, they offended You, my God,
who has been so good to me and is deserving of all my love.
With a humble and contrite heart,
I resolve to understand my failings and shortcomings,
find ways to overcome them and better myself,
and eventually lead a life more worthy of Your many blessings.
